Who we help  /  Engineering and modelling partners
For coastal engineering consultancies and reef designers

Coastal modelling you can design and permit on

Add specialist wave, current and CFD modelling to your project or bid. Work with us as a subcontractor, a white-label team or a named partner. No reef purchase required.

When teams bring us in

Your team has the project. We add the detail.

Regional coastal models are the right tool for most of the job. Some sites and decisions need a closer look than your current set-up can give.

1

A complex nearshore site

Reefs, structures, steep bathymetry or unusual wave climates that need finer resolution.

2

A team at capacity

A deadline is coming and your modellers are already committed elsewhere.

3

A bid that needs an edge

Specialist CFD capability named in your proposal, without the cost of hiring for it.

4

Comparing options

Nature-based and traditional solutions tested side by side, on the same site data.

Why it matters

The design case is the storm you haven't recorded yet

1

Short records, long design lives

A few decades of buoy data rarely contain the extremes a structure must survive. We simulate thousands of years of sea states so they do.

2

Permits need defensible evidence

Regulators want to see what your project does to waves, currents and neighbouring shorelines.

3

Nature-based options need proof

Porous, living structures behave differently from rock and concrete. We model them properly, side by side with conventional options.

What we model

From decades of sea states to forces on a single structure

  • Long-term sea-state statisticsMultivariate stochastic models built from decades of ocean data and climate projections, simulating thousands of future years of waves and currents.
  • Waves and currentsShoaling, refraction, diffraction and wave-induced currents from our own coastal models, with nearshore statistics and return periods.
  • Past change and future climateHindcast past storms and project long-term climate impacts with one integrated set of solvers, tuned for geography and long-term analysis. We validate against SWAN, TELEMAC and XBeach, and work with you to test the model against your own observations of erosion, surge and waves.
  • Extreme eventsHurricane tracks, storm surge and 2D/3D modelling of extreme nonlinear waves.
  • Wave-structure interactionCFD for loads, wave transmission, porosity and turbulence, and breakwater or reef placement.
  • Coastal morphologySediment movement, predicted shoreline change and the impact of each option on the beach.

How we work with you

Your client, your project, our models

We fit around how your project is set up. Your client relationship stays yours.

Specialist subcontractor

We deliver a defined modelling work package within your project and report to your project lead.

White-label team

We do the modelling, and you present it under your name, with full confidentiality.

Named technical partner

CCell named in your bid as the specialist modelling partner, adding a recognised capability to your proposal.

Packages

Scope it first, then model it properly

A short scoping stage agrees the data, physics, domain, resolution and scenarios before anyone commits to a full model.

Stage 1
From US$10,000

Scoping study

Data review, model choice, domain and boundary conditions, scenarios and uncertainty. A clear plan and fixed price for the work.

Stage 2
US$25,000-40,000

Focused CFD analysis

A targeted study of one question, such as wave transmission, run-up, overtopping or local forces on a structure.

Stage 3
From US$60,000

Full coastal model

Site-wide waves, currents and sediment, calibrated against measured data, with scenario comparisons.

What you get

Outputs your team can use and defend

  • Model set-up and assumptions reportInputs, domain, resolution, boundary conditions and limitations, written down
  • Calibration and validationModel results compared with your measured site or buoy data, and with the erosion and surge observed in real events
  • Scenario comparisonsOptions and future climates on the same basis
  • Engineering interpretationWhat the results mean for the design decision, not just the plots
  • Data files in agreed formatsReady to drop into your own workflow and report
Evidence from the field

What the sea has already shown us

Grand Bahama - Hurricane Matthew, 2016

When we surveyed the coast the following year, damage to coastal property was concentrated where there was no offshore reef. Where reefs were present, larger waves broke further out and sand built up behind them.

Led by a specialist in extreme waves

CCell was founded by Dr Will Bateman, a chartered engineer whose PhD was in extreme ocean waves. Our modelling has been developed through projects funded by Innovate UK and EPSRC, with high-performance computing through the EU's Fortissimo programme and physical testing in university wave tanks.

Nature-based options

When your client asks for a greener option

More clients and regulators want nature-based options on the table. We model them properly, alongside conventional schemes.

Habitat in the designReef options that protect the coast and create marine habitat.

Questions technical directors ask

Before you call

Do we have to use CCell reefs?

No. Modelling is a standalone service. If the results point to a reef, that is a separate conversation, and only if you want it.

What data do you need?

Bathymetry, any wave buoy or hindcast data and the project question. We fill gaps from global sources such as satellite, NOAA and Copernicus.

Which tools do you use?

Our own high-performance CFD, SPH, coastal and stochastic models. We validate them against industry-standard SWAN, TELEMAC and XBeach, so you can see how they compare.

Who owns the outputs?

Agreed per project. White-label work is delivered under NDA, and your client never needs to know we were involved.

How fast can you start?

We confirm availability on the model-fit call and agree delivery dates in the scoping study.

Can you support permit applications?

Yes. Modelling for permit applications and environmental surveys is part of the service.
